Oh dear. He is multiclassed, after all.

"Meteor Knight"
It does seem that way. But would he really wear all that armor if he multiclassed to wizard? I wonder if he's a divine caster.

He might have been careful to select spells without somatic components... Or just have an obscure, possibly third-party, feat to ignore armor's spell failure chance. 3.5 had one that let you ignore spell failure chance for any armor, but only when casting a spell of a spell level less than or equal to your class levels in Fighter. Like many multiclass feats, it was ripe for abuse in gestalt play - sure, a reasonable DM would ban it, but breaking the system is half the fun of gestalt characters!

"Don't worry about it DT"
your schedule is insanely consistent and always comes with warnings of breaks. That first part itself is rare amongst webcomics, the second is just as rare, probably even rarer.

i'd link to "linear warriors quadratic wizards" on tvtropes, but someone else can have that honour of being blamed for destroying your free time.

lv 11 wizard defeating a lv 16 Fighter is nothing. A Lv 20 Fighter would need to be EXTREMELY well built to even have a chance of hitting a lv 7 Wizard. That being Said Mr roomate here is already screwed over by his existing fighter levels so he'll never be a caster of note regardless of his build decisions.

So he's got fighter equipment, but is also a caster? I'd love to see the mechanics of that.

"It IS Pathfinder"
Perhaps he's a Magus?
